Dragon Sketch

Sketchy sketchy.

Workshop!

I’m going to the April 20. to 22.! I’m going to have an awesome time in stockholm being a tourist and painting.

Autumn Ball

A poster I did for Pykälä’s autumn ball.

Horse Inks #5

And finally the last ones. I decided from the start to do 10 all together, to make sure I have time to learn at least something. Ink turned out to be a great medium to study form with. The washes have to be carefully considered before putting down, so it forces you to consider the big forms of the horse. Besides these I’ve done a bunch of really quick sketches of horses to get a better handle on perspective, movement and all that jazz, but they aren’t that showy, as most of them are in blue pencil that I just can’t get visible on the computer. I feel I atleast got a little better feeling of the shape of the rump and those elbow muscles.

Horse Inks #4

The dark ones were a lot more difficult then the light ones, you wanted to get the shape of the dark in one layer to have no ugly edges, and with the insanely short drying time on the crappy paper I used, it’s a real challenge.

Horse Inks #3

More ink horses.

Also, I redid this portrait to look better, the colors just weren’t right before.

Fishtronaut

Here’s a little bit of progress on one of my newest pieces, fishtronaut.

I started with an idea and a sketch straight in photoshop. I came to the conclusion that I liked the idea, everything else was horrible and the colors didn’t work at all.

So I went back to thumbnails to get the color and values into better order before jumping the gun.

And here is the final piece.

Found

Here is a newish piece I started work on some time ago, but never quite finished. It’s a bit different from my usual approach, and there is definately something in it that fascinates me, but I haven’t quite managed to make up my mind as to where I should go with it. I’ll probably return to it in a month or two and finish it.

Studies

I noticed I haven’t actually been posting much studies or stuff in that vein, so here’s a couple of them done from movie screenshots. It was suprisingly hard to find interesting shots, in the first one I was interested in the foliage and the water, and the second one just had great gesture and skin tones.

Style, please

I’ve been wanting to push my personal expression further and find that comfortable style that feels right for me, so to that end I bought the ebook from zero2illo A Guide to Uncovering Your Unique Illustration Style! Everything I want in one easy guide, I can’t go wrong now! This is the first piece I did following along to the instructions. I have to say I really enjoyed making it, and maybe the book actually is useful. I think I’ll find that out if I manage to go through all the other exercises.
